Why SDGs in Higher Education Matter: V Gautham Navada to Address ABBS Faculty Development Program

SDGs in Higher Education - V Gautham Navada to Address ABBS Faculty Development Program

SDGs in higher education are no longer limited to policy discussions or academic references. They are now becoming part of how institutions prepare students for real-world challenges.

They also influence responsible decision-making, employability, entrepreneurship, and social impact.

At ForthFocus, we believe education, technology, and industry should work together. The future belongs to learners who can understand problems deeply, use technology meaningfully, and think responsibly about the impact of their decisions.

This is why conversations around Sustainable Development Goals, curriculum design, research, and Outcome-Based Education are becoming increasingly relevant for colleges, faculty members, students, and industry professionals.

As part of this larger conversation, V Gautham Navada, Founder & Director of ForthFocus, will be addressing a one-day Faculty Development Program at Acharya Bangalore B-School, Bengaluru.

Faculty Development Program on Embedding SDGs in Curriculum and Research

The Faculty Development Program, titled “Embedding SDGs in Curriculum and Research,” is being organised by the Department of Management, Undergraduate Programs, Acharya Bangalore B-School, in association with IQAC and the Research Centre.

The program is scheduled for 23rd May 2026, Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 04:00 PM at BMR Auditorium, ABBS, Bengaluru. It will be conducted in both online and offline modes.

As part of the FDP, V Gautham Navada will lead a session titled “From Awareness to Action: Embedding SDGs in Outcome-Based Higher Education.”

The session will focus on how Sustainable Development Goals can move beyond awareness and become part of academic planning, curriculum design, outcome-based education, teaching delivery, student learning outcomes, and practical application.

Why SDGs in Higher Education Need Practical Integration?

For many institutions, SDGs are introduced as broad global goals. However, awareness alone is not enough.

The real value begins when these goals connect with what students learn. They should also influence how students think and how they apply knowledge in real situations.

In this context, SDGs in higher education can connect academic learning with real-world issues. These include responsible consumption, climate action, innovation, inequality, sustainable communities, economic development, and ethical leadership.

Moreover, when SDGs are integrated into Outcome-Based Education, they become more measurable and actionable.

Faculty members can align Program Outcomes and Course Outcomes with relevant sustainability goals. As a result, students understand what they are learning and why it matters.

At the same time, this approach helps students develop a wider perspective. They begin to see business, technology, management, entrepreneurship, and innovation as tools for meaningful impact.

Connecting Outcome-Based Education With Real World Relevance

Outcome-Based Education gives institutions a clear structure. It helps define the knowledge, skills, and abilities students should gain through a course or program.

When SDGs are embedded into this framework, academic outcomes become more relevant. They also become more connected to society, industry, and future needs.

For example, a management student can learn about entrepreneurship through sustainable business models. A technology student can explore accessibility, inclusion, and responsible digital adoption.

Similarly, a student studying operations can examine resource efficiency, circular economy concepts, and environmental impact.

This is where SDGs in higher education become more than a subject. They become a lens for evaluating problems, building solutions, and making decisions.

ForthFocus and the Larger Education, Technology, and Industry Connection

ForthFocus works at the intersection of web solutions, branding, digital marketing, hospitality technology, and custom digital products. Over the years, our work has involved businesses, institutions, hospitality brands, government-related projects, healthcare organisations, and education-linked initiatives.

This experience has shown us one thing clearly: education becomes more powerful when it is connected with real-world application.

Students today need more than theoretical knowledge. They need exposure to digital tools, business thinking, ethical decision-making, communication, problem-solving, and adaptability. Faculty members play a crucial role in shaping this readiness.

That is why platforms like Faculty Development Programs are important. They create space for educators, industry professionals, and academic leaders to discuss how teaching and learning can evolve.

For ForthFocus, participating in such conversations is part of a larger commitment to knowledge sharing, digital innovation, and future-ready learning.

A Practical Industry Perspective on Sustainability and Learning

With over a decade of experience in digital solutions, entrepreneurship, WordPress, technology adoption, and industry-led learning, V Gautham Navada brings a practical perspective to the discussion on sustainability in higher education.

His work across business, government, healthcare, education, hospitality, and digital ecosystems gives the session an industry-connected lens. This helps bridge the gap between academic frameworks and real-world implementation.

As a WordPress Core Contributor and entrepreneur, he has actively engaged with students, educators, institutions, entrepreneurs, and the wider technology community. His work continues to focus on helping people understand how digital platforms, open source ecosystems, and technology adoption can create opportunities beyond traditional boundaries.

Beyond business and technology, V Gautham Navada is also an avid traveller who has explored 14 countries. This global exposure continues to shape his understanding of people, cultures, digital adoption, sustainability, and international opportunities.
